They are looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic head chef with the drive to relaunch a hotel’s kitchen following its closure due to Covid. It is a great opportunity for the right person to put their own stamp on the operation, designing a compelling menu that showcases the best of Islay’s amazing produce, as well as building their team. The successful chef must be passionate about using local ingredients whilst working closely with the farm and game departments and also making use of the impressive kitchen garden.
With the location being a remote Scottish island within a small community, the right personality fit is just as important as finding someone with the required professional experience. An honest, friendly individual with a positive resourceful attitude is essential. You must be aware of costs and margins and know how to run a commercial kitchen. It is imperative to have the skills to lead and work as part of a team within the hotel and engage with the wider Estate in this progressive role. Salary is dependent on experience and can be discussed at interview stage. The position also includes your own house.
